NURS (or HLTH) 4090/6090: A Comparative Study of National Healthcare Systems in Western Europe and the United States
This two-week course is designed for students interested in clinical health, public health, and related health professions including: nursing, social work, pre-medicine, molecular biology, athletic training, health fitness, health administration, and health policy. The course examines the healthcare systems in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany in comparison to one another and to the US healthcare system. Students will visit a variety of health facilities in these three countries, including: hospitals, elder care, mental health, rehabilitation, and physical therapy. Students will also attend presentations by educators and practitioners. This study tour includes organized cultural and historical tours in Maastricht and Amsterdam Students will also have Amsterdam. ample free time to travel and to interact with people from the host countries, including students studying with Maastricht University’s Health Sciences Faculty. This course counts as an elective within the IDHS minor and toward the culture and health requirement for the BSPH.
