CHHS Change of Major Orientation

Greetings CHHS Students,

As you may or may not know, I am Demetrius Richmond, the new Director of the CHHS Advising Center and I am delighted to be serving in this role to ensure your success. We in the CHHS Advising Center are working diligently to ensure a safe and seamless registration period for all students in the college. Currently, Andrea Swintal and I are staffing the advising office and meeting with students to remove academic advising holds. Please know that we are committed to your success and want to help you navigate this nontraditional registration & advising season with ease and efficiency. Although, we are limited in staffing, we want to make sure that we avail ourselves as much as possible. I am sure you saw the university’s updates on how we will navigate the COVID-19 threat as an institution. In the spirit of alignment, we will be sending you weekly updates on how academic advising will operate on the horizon of registration week, which begins at the end of this month. Thus, for the week of March 23-27, 2020 please note the following efforts and plan accordingly: 

  1. Academic Advising - The CHHS Advising office will continue to conduct scheduled advising appointments remotely through WebEx video format.  Students can continue to schedule new appointments with their assigned advisor by using CONNECT. 
  • Scheduling Advising Appointments (WebEx):
    • If you already have an appointment scheduled with your advisor, you will simply click the WebEx link of your advisor to start your video advising appointment. (link is listed below)
    • If you do not have an appointment yet, use CONNECT to schedule it, then simply login by clicking the WebEx link of your advisor at the time of your scheduled appointment.

  • We ask for your patience in finding availability for your appointments, as there are only 2 of us serving a student population of nearly 2,000.
  • If you cannot find a convenient availability slot for an appointment, we encourage you to use Virtual Walk-In Wednesdays (explained below) or email us directly to schedule something.
  • If you do not have access to video format technology, email us and we can schedule a phone session with you.  

2.   Virtual Walk-in Wednesday - We will be conducting virtual walk-ins on Wednesday, from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM via the WebEx Platform. To login into the Walk-In virtual queue, simply click the link of us (listed above) and you will be added to the queue. When it is your time, the video session will start. 

3.   Email - We will also be available through email, so if you have questions please email us and we will respond as soon as possible.

If you are a current UNCC student OR a current CHHS student wishing to declare a major in the College of Health and Human Services, you are required to attend a "Change of Major" Orientation.   The CHHS Change of Major Orientation will introduce the majors available in the College of Health and Human Services, review major requirements, application to upper division majors and describe the change of major process. Attendance is mandatory or your major will NOT be changed to CHHS.

In order to change your major you must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and meet all progression/major requirements.
